an important test skill i've developed is to look at a question, any question anywhere, and say not what is the answer but what do they want to hear.
the WASL is so poorly written that you have to know this.

yeah, that's a good way to keep your grades up. a surprizing number of teachers will give you a base grade based on their oppinion of you, which affects everything, even math scores. it's best to keep on the good side of that.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if you're on the good side of the opinion or not if they think you can do better. (Teachers having high expectations for individual students is pretty annoying. Kind of like a really messed up grading curve where stupid people get A's.)
