[meh.
still, you don't have to personally introduce two new characters, right? if we hold off of the others, then that's still a little many...
but, shall we start again? okay.]
The party sets up camp in the woods, to avoid people. Kyo starts a small fire, small enough to not smoke enough to be seen. "so, what are we going to do now? we've been effectively banished from a town, without even enough time to prepare travel packs."

[KS, lighten up. No hard feelings, right?]
Kaz walked over to the small fire that Kyo was crouching next to. He put his sword on his back and grabbed some twigs nearby, tossing them on the pile and completely extinguishing the fire. "Hey! What was that for?!"
"Stand back, kid." He refrained from saying twit instead, since they'd probably be traveling with one another for a while. Kyo stood, a bit biffed. Kaz then blew some fire, lighting the pile of lumber ablaze. Kyo glanced at the salamander. "Thanks, I guess..." Kaz almost apologized, noticing his facial expression, but figured the human'd have to cope. All these pink-skins take everything so personally. If only they'd realize we all have our own qualities that we're going to need to succeed in whatever we're trying to achieve.
He snapped out of it, realizing what he just thought. Turning to Xaenai and Revengoafar he said, "What are we going to do now?"

Kyo, acting fast, moves stealthily twoards behind her. but not wanting more enimies, he merely says "what brings you here?" in a friend-or-foe sort of way. as if with a wrong answer he'd punch her vitals.

[cough* starting fresh* cough In other words: Our characters cannot act like they know what happened before the restart. Also Edited= due to both of us posting at the same time.]
Reev, who had been trying desperately to sleep in one of the trees near the camp fire, got up and swooped down as quietly as possible behind this stranger. Though this act could easily be misinterpreted she had actually seen the girl materialize, something she had only seen sylphs do before. She knew some sylphs that could even manage to make just their wings invisible, something she sorely wished she could do instead of wearing this uncomfortable cloak. As she checked the girls back and body structure carefully though she was certian this was no sylph.
When Kyo asked his polite question the more important issue of safety pressed forward in her mind and she drew her bow, ready to fire if necesary. When Xae asked her question, Reev followed it up with one of her own, "Yes, explain yoursylph, Why have you been looking for us and what did we have to do with you getting yelled at," Reevengaofar asked the unexpected visitor in rapid fire. Her arms still burning from their earlier labors made holding the bow in the ready state painful, but she wasn't about to have all their day's labor be in vane at the hands of some potential assassin. Reev was more than a little distrustful and jealous of anyone, even more so a non-sylph, who could use the power of invisibility.
|
louie9090
|
Tisea blinked in surprise for a moment before recovering her voice. "Um... I guess I should start at the beginning, eh? Well, first off, I've been training as a mage for a while and invisibility is one of my... talents." This is awkward, she thought. "And when you ran out the gate, I was sort of a few feet away. I didn't do anything, obviously, and I got yelled at for it. The General himself came, as a matter of fact. You shoul've seen his face when I turned invisible on him."
|
~Sylph~
|
Reev lowered her bow, satisfied with the answer, and extended her hand. "I guess that puts us on the same enemies of Idaur list. I'm a recent addition also, though I think Kaz has been on that list for some time," she responded and looked over towards Kaz who still appeared anxious for something more to do than stand around and talk. "By the way, my name's Reevengaofar," she said, waiting for both a reply to the handshake offer and the exchange of names.
Her mind raced though over the fact that the girl had done this as a feat of magic. If it was a spell and not some sort of innate ability, like it was for many sylphs, then perhaps it was something she could learn to do quickly. Well, at least more quickly than discovering the power in hersylph was taking, which to this point had remained a lifelong failure: Except that is when she slept.

"I'm Tisea," She replied, shaking the hand. Well, that went well. I didn't get shot, she thought.

Xae stood up and moved to shake the new comers hand too. "I'm Xaenai, but most people jus' call me Xae."

"what rein has the jerk, Iadur, have on you?" said kyo, slowly and VERY quietly approaching whenever she turned away. if she could turn invisible, he had to be ready to tackle her in an instant.

Tisea rolled her eyes. "He's The General. He can boss whoever he wants to around, especially when it means four very wanted people escape his grasp."

Kaz decided to calm his nerves a bit and sat off to the side of Tisea and the group surrounding her next to a tree, putting his sword down beside him and crossing his legs. Tisea noticed the girth of the sword as she had before at the gate battle.
Kaz snorted a puff of smoke out of his nose when he heard Tisea's comment. "We're very flattered, but what business do you have here? And if we're so wanted, what reason do you have for being so friendly?" After eyeing the girl down, he closed his eyes and put his hands on his knees to meditate.

Grouch, Tisea thought. "It's in my nature." She saw the questioning looks and explained "I like making people mad, ok?"

Kyo, not entirely sure he shouldn't tackle her, or punch her, just for fun, because she HAD said that the general can (and therefore could have) bossed her arround. "so what are you doing here? why come here just to say that you like annoying people? also, if you like annoying people, be my guest to practice on her." pointing at Xaenai.

As Kaz sat against the tree, eyes closed, he chuckled a bit. What a twit. Not many humans gained full respect of Kaz, and about a quarter of those few ended up in the group he commanded.
Dang, I broke my focus. His face went solemn again.

louie9090

Xae sniffed indignately. "Only you can annoy me, Kyo. 'Sides, she ain't got the experience i got."
***
Tisea frowned at that, but answered the question instead. "It's complicated. You're all the fighter types so you probably won't be able to get your brains around this, but mage training is boring. You gotta learn all this stuff even if you can't do it. It's stupid."
|
KillerSlime
|
"aww, how sweet, Xaen!" he said, in a way SPECIFICALLY designed to annoy Xaenai(also the nickname.) then she responded by sticking her tounge out at him and proceeding to the conversation at hand. Kyo did the same, as he could easily forget about this all if he started bugging Xae.
"so? training is boring. have you ever tried spending a year in solitary fight training? now THAT's monotonus. you ain't got nothing on me for that."
|
louie9090

Tisea sshrugged. "Don't get me wrong, it's worth it and all, but it's boring. And I'm not even allowed out of the city!"

"Oh, boo hoo," Xae snapped. Xaen? Xaen!? She glared at Kyo.

Kaz popped an eye open, smelling the tempers flaring. "Hey you three, I spent years in battle along-side many that got post-traumatic stress disorder afterwards, scarred for life. But do you see me bragging about something as futile as that? In this context, do you really think that bringing something up like that could achieve anything? Calm down."
After calming down a moment himself and closing his open eye, Kaz spoke again. "So you're here, Tisea. You plan on staying, or what?"

we're not even allowed INTO the city anymore, and that's where they keep all the supplies. in the city isn't quite as bad as out of it, in most situations. anyway, you still haven't said what you're here for. all you say is that you like annoying people. that's hardly a job-jepordizing motivation."

"Well said Kyo, And even more to the point: Teisa I dont think you have a clue what is going on," Reev said and then noticed immediately the look of scorn Teisa shot at her. "I dont mean to offend but the 'joys' you saw us facing today are probably about as good as we're going to get. We're embroiled in something thats taken more lives than you can imagine. I've already gotten two people, well three," she said looking at Kaz with a mild blush, "caught up in this with me and you'll pardone me if I am not anxious to draw in a fourth. I am not looking to add the weight of guilt for another life, should you lose yours."
Reev realized she was doing it again, running off at the mouth, stopped talking. Teisa was standing there a looking a little dumbfounded. Kaz broke the slience by clearing his throat and expelling a little smoke in the process. "Reev, I really think that's her decision to make and aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself?" "Her decision? I think its more like our decision. Are we just going to tell every stranger we meet what's going on? I mean that's pretty stupid if you ask me," Kyo interjected. "Who asked," Xaenai replied, just to annoy Kyo.
Reev sighed and replied, "Either way, I am glad we inspired or induced you thru our actions to leave your tyranical general slash leader behind. If you'll excuse me... everyone, I really need some sleep. Let me know whats come of things when I wake up. Oh and Kyo, I'd like to point out something about this whole bossing you around thing: Who sent whom up to open the gate?"
With this the sylph took wing for a breif moment, not waiting for his reply and lit upon a solid branch of one of the nearby trees. In nearly a fluid motion she laid down upon the branch, limbs and wings hanging over either side, and eventually fell alseep to the sounds of talking that went on into the night. Though she never acted like she heard Kyo's response, nor any of the talking that transpired that night, she did hear most of it.

"Huh. Interesting point..." Tisea muttered. Why was she here? Oh, right. I'm a common sense-less clod, she thought sarcasticly. "Look, I know why I ended up here, and you probably wouldn't even if I told you. So we'll just leave it at that, eh?" She studied them.
***
Xae was curious in spite of herself. She didn't really like the girl, but she was interesting and having a target other than Kyo might be fun.

Kaz nearly said good-night, almost appologetically, but thought that it might have been out of place. He closed his eyes again, trying to fight against redundance and achieve inner peace, taking a deep breath and unintentionally releasing some more smoke.
"Reev is right. We're waist-deep in something. I don't know about the others, but if you want to join us and endanger your well-being, you can be my guest. I can deal with the weight of burden on my shoulders and will feel no guilt if you fail to defend yourself against whatever will undoubtedly come after us. Just know that."
Without looking, Kaz was unable to guage the reactions to this. All there was was silence.
"Well, on that note," Kaz said standing up and grabbing his sword, "I'll be going up as well. You kids mull it over." He jumped up the branches until he was high enough in the tree so that there were still large enough branches to support him and so that he was able to see the ground, his protective impulses becoming apparent, which he noticed and shrugged off. He then found a comfortable spot and mindlessly stabbed Ko Kasai into the trunk for safe-keeping. "Dang... I have to stop doing that."

Tisea kicked at the dirt, beginning to actually think things through. She could go back to the city, but then she'd get punished for snubbing the general like she did. She didn't relish the idea. She could stay, and then she wouldn't get punished but she could very well get killed. She didn't relish that though either.

Xae poked Kyo and said softly "I bet ya she'll stay."

Reev didn't know how long she had slept, but when she awoke she felt completely refreshed. It was still dark and she thought she could hear the others still talking, however, her mind was elsewhere. She tested her arms and they had recovered well, but her head was another matter entirely.
The blows to the side and back of her head had only left bluish bruises, the color of cobalt. Though she could not see them, she could feel the tenderness there. The one on her forehead had turned into a nice mouse and that she could feel. It had swollen to the size of an actual mouse. Touching it shot a warm feeling thru her that made her feel dizzy and sick to her stomach, so she stopped. Speaking of her stomach, it growled for hunger. It was too dark out for her to try to hunt up some food with the moon completely hidden behind the same clouds that had soaked them during the day.
She fished thru her cloak, which she had draped loosely over hersylph as a blanket and pulled out the three scrolls she still held. She decided it might be a good time to try to read the other two. Using the same power and same technique she used to summon powerful lightning, she summoned just a spark from the tip of her index finger. She held her other digits in like she was pointing so they wouldnt spark as well. With this as her light, she figured out which one was the sylph portion of the dragon spell and returned it to her cloak.
The next scroll was in a human language she did not know. They had made so many of them in such a short time and Reev had never managed to keep up. There were sylphs that did, many in fact, as most sylphs were enamored of the human's creative ability and would seruptiously speak to them and try to influence their music, paintings and dance, as they lacked the ability themsylphs to create such things as well as humans.
Reevengaofar however, was not that sort of sylph. She neither hated humans nor thought of them much as she rarely interacted with them and found them annoying when she had in the past. Unconsciously she had thought of them as lessers, but it was not a thought she was aware of. Her current companions had done little to change this opinion of humans, but they had been helpful to her.
They had saved her life in fact and that had meant something to her, something deep which she couldn't explain even to hersylph. It had begun to make her consider them equals, but there was more to it than that. After staring at the scroll for a while, trying to decypher it, she gave up and put it away as well. Maybe one of the three humans could help shead some light on these in the morning, assuming the latest one stayed. Reev doubted that she would, but humans had been suprising her lately.
She turned her attention to the last scroll. This one she had known what it was when she first saw it. It was a map, but a spell of some type made it unreadable. Along the top, the only part that was legible, there were glyphs from several different languages strung together and she began trying to piece together their meaning. Now that Reev felt realitively safe she was able to study it more freely.
After a few minutes she got enough of it to tell it was a riddle and that the riddle would solve the map. Part of the tip off was that the last character written was the endive one for question. This peaked her interest even more and she continued, so focused on what she was doing that an explosion might not of broken her concentration.

[This may get a bit messed up since two time-lines are going on. I'm assuming that the human's one is still the former one, though, but it's possible that they're just happening at the same time and the two in the tree's perspective of time is skewed due to sleep/lack thereof.]
Kaz was nearly asleep sitting on the branch when he saw a light in the trees on the other side of the clearing, unlike the soft glow of the campfire down below. "Must be Reev. I wonder what she's doing..?" He thought of some way to get her attention...
He yanked off a twig with a leaf on the end and put it in his mouth, lighting it on fire. He held it in front of him, waving it around. "Psst. PSST." The sylph apparently occupied with something, he looked around in the tree for something else to get her attention, snuffing the twig and dropping down below.. His mind muddled by near-sleep, instead of jumping over, he decided to climb down the tree. He climbed on the opposite side of the camp fire as to not get attention of the humans. He grabbed a couple stones of different sizes and headed back up to the branch with his sword nearby.
He took aim at the small light and chucked a few pebbles, hearing them rattle down the limbs in the dark. No effect. He decided to use a slightly bigger rock this time, a small river rock with the diameter of a medium-sized coin. Rather than going directly for the light this time, Kaz aimed for above it, hoping to make it plop in Reev's lap.
He tossed it and waited, and instead of hearing the satisfying thunk of a tree trunk, he heard a thud followed by the light going out and an audible, "auuugghhhaaaaawww!"
"Uh oh." He tried to keep his cool and layed down on the branch to feign sleep incase she tried looking for him. Cooling down and deciding to actually fall asleep, he could have sworn he heard a snicker somewhere else in the tree... He shrugged it off though, thinking it the rustling of leaves and fell asleep.

Reev heard the sound of rustilng somewhere in the back of her mind but it wasn't followed by any other causes for concern and so the back of her mind did not chime in. The front of her mind had figured out that there were at least two more question marks. She was disappointed she hadn't noticed the one in low sylphish at first glance, but it had been drawn in a rather odd style, the other was in a no longer written nor spoken human language. She couldn't recall where she'd run across that language, and as she tried to remember, her mind focusing on that question and not the symbols in front of her eyes, the gylphs began to take form and meaning.
Just as the phrase "I am punished by nature" sprang from the scroll to Revengaofar's mind intact, inspite of it being jumbled in four different languages, something hit her square on the forhead. The warmth and dizziness came back ten fold and Reev knew she was falling. Moaning and trying to fly to save hersylph she sped instead faster towards the ground, hitting the rain softened earth without a sound. The warmth spread, no longer causing sickness, instead becoming a very comfortable place to sleep as her vision dimmed and unconsciousness engulfed her.

[P.S. I have plans for the unknown force if no one else has. I dont wanna give too much away as its part of the mystery of the scrolls Reev is trying to unravel. But I will say this: It will have to be possessed by one of the human characters for reasons that will become clear.]

Reev lay slumped on the ground looking much like a bird that had broken its neck flying into something when Boden made it to her. Though he generally did not have much sympathy for those who intruded upon his woods and had even laughed as she fell, seeing her here like this, looking so much like a wounded one of his woodland friends caused his nurturing side to take over. He bent over her and carefully listened for breathing and was relieved to hear it. Its one thing to laugh at someone falling but another to laugh at someone falling to their death. Boden rolled Reev over while cradling her neck as best as possible and being careful of her wings.
“This little bird must think it’s a ram,” Boden said to himself in barely a whisper when he saw all the bumps and bruises on Reev’s head. Then, as was his way, Boden whispered to himself, “using her head, a bim a bim bam.” Of course the irony of Boden calling Reev little wasn’t lost on him nor his three and a half foot tall frame. He enjoyed irony and any kind of joke, especially the practical kind. The rhyming however, he was cursed with and had grown completely unaware of this compulsion of his unless others pointed it out to him.
When he’d come across this motley group, a little bird had told him about them quite literally, he had planned to play a few practical jokes on them. His hopes were that the jokes would pit them one against the other and cause them to leave his forest behind. When he saw how much they fought on their own without any aid it had spoiled his planned fun and his fun plans.
He had watched them and waited quietly instead until the sylph, he assumed that’s what she was as that’s what the animals had called her, had fallen from her perch causing him to snicker. He bent over her now and laid his hands upon her head, practicing healing magic. Slowly the bruises began to fade away as did the mouse on her forehead. He dare not try to heal the damage to her mind though, as he knew nothing about her kind. Nature or her will would have to heal that part. He could help both along, but someone would have to tend to her while he did.
He ran his hands across her to make sure there were no other wounds. He noticed a strange lump that worried him, til he realized it was a purse where it ought not be, but found no other wounds. He stood up and walked around her scratching his head. Dragging her might break her wings so decided there was no other way than to carry her. He lifted her into a seated position and then, placing his hands on her back, hoisted her above his head. He chuckled to himself about how this must look. He thought of ants he’d seen carrying bits of leaves five times their size and laughed a bit more as he carried her into their camp.
He was noticed right away by two of the humans, but the scene of him with Reev held above his head and her limbs hanging just above the ground must have been too shocking for them to react. So, he placed the sylph on the ground and was the first to speak. “It seems your feathered friend has taken a spill, tend to her while I gather what she’ll need if you will,” Boden said and then sprang off into the forest to find the right herbs.

[ Fix-ed Oh yes, and if anyone's got time to act concerned over Reev or react to the appearance and then disappearance of Boden it would help emensely.]
Boden was fast, even faster here along the well worn paths of his forest home where his size was actually a benefit. Even if the humans had wanted to follow him, they wouldn't have stood a chance here. It didnt take him long to reach the trees following the rabit trail as he went (they loved these nuts).
The pair of trees stood in a clearing, rising up over 80 feet into the sky with the shape of slightly plump pyramids. He plucked a handful of their fan shaped leaves, apologized to the couple aloud in rhyme. He then grabbed a few of the silvery nuts that lay on the ground beneath them and headed back for the intruders camp and the injured sylph, his short powerful legs carrying him at a full trot.
|
louie9090

Xae moved to sit next to Reev, not quite knowing what to do but moving there anyway.
***
Tisea stared after the little man for a moment after he was gone from view before glancing over at the injured sylph. There weren't any bruises, so she asumed the man had healed her. She repositioned the glaive on her back and went over to the sylph, wondering if there was something she could do.
|
~Sylph~
|
Boden stuck as much of the leaves and the nuts in his mouth as he could, chewwing them as he trotted along. When he reached the camp two of the humans were hovering over the injured sylph. Panting out of his nose he spat the chewwed up leaves and nuts into one of his hands so that he could speak. He looked back and forth at the two human females and decided the one with blood on her looked confused. The other looked like she might actually know a thing or two about healing and so he chose her to speak to.
"Give her this," Boden said and handed the chewwed up mess to Tisea who accepted it before she realized exactly what she was accepting. "And make sure she eats every bit. Though what e'er else she eats will come out lickity split, it will clear her mind and give her thoughts speed. Other than that rest is all she will need," Boden said. "Well, that is, if she ever wakes up," he finished and again dashed off into the night.
This time he was heading for his home: A small modestly appointed hole in the ground (quite literally). He sang 'a flup a dup dup if she e'er wakes up' to himself as he went. He'd never intended to spend this much time on the intruders tonight, but he certianly meant to begin keeping an eye on them again early in morning. That meant getting some of a nights rest now. He didn't figure the sylph would be ready for travel that early, but he really didn't know as he didn't know sylphs any better than he knew dragons: That is to say, in both cases, not much at all.

The chemicals in the leaves were beginning to work their magik on Reevengaofar. The sylph's unconscious mind flew in circles around the texts she had been reading before the fall, like a bird with its legs tethered to a tree. And, like the bird would grow closer to the tree with each ensuing circle that part of her mind which still functioned grew closer and closer to understanding the symbols she had read as it continued fly around them.
In fact, it grew closer to the truth than Reev likely would have ever been able to were her mind intact and still cluttered with thoughts of the day which passed now deeper into night and the noise that ones senses makes; senses which she was currently freed from. The pokes, the prods, the chewed up mass that Tisea was gently forcing her to consume were not even distant noises to her mind. But, the effects of Bodens concoction were growing stronger. Reev's mind began to fly closer and closer to the figurative tree of truth on a collision course with it. When she impacted with it she was sure to either regain consciousness or drift forever off into the thousands of lifetimes which it felt like she was now dreaming through.
If Reev ever contemplated on the time she had spent in this state, which she later did, she would swear she'd been trapped in the mental state she was now for months, which she later did. Well, not that much later, because she did it soon after she awoke and she was beginning to awake now.
