Pink lyrics

i just got Pink's new cd, I'm Not Dead, and this song is really powerful. here are the lyrics:

Dear Mr. President by Pink

Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why

Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
How can you say
No child is left behind
We're not dumb and we're not blind
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye

Let me tell you bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You'd never take a walk with me
Would you

it's so true, it's scary. our president is an idiot, and i don't think it's agressive at all.
KillerSlime

not violent agressive, but it is making alot of statements about him that may or may not be true. it's not that i disagree, it's that i'm saying it has politics in it.
~Sylph~

I like it, but then again its my political perspective thats being expressed by Pink there. I'm sure there are others here would have an opposing opinion to it.

Perhaps it's time to open a debate forum? As this has the potential to lead to one.

Anyways, regardless of my personal political slanting, I have to say I have always been impressed by Pink. She truly uses her voice to voice her opinion. I am glad to see she is starting to tackle larger issues with the same tenacity and outspokenness she tackled personal ones with on her past albums. Go Pink! Add some legitimacy to pop! Just please dont end up in the same self righteous and pretencious regions that U2 ended up in. Or in other words, stay Pink.
KillerSlime

this is the first i have heard of her.
but i agree with sylph on everything but that last bit i have no clue about.

U2 rocks, but you're right. and KS, you've never heard Pink?UnsureThinking she's soooooo cool! she wrote Stupid Girls, Trouble, Get the Pary Started... ring a bell? she's so outspoken, i really admire her a lot.
KillerSlime

nope! i have very limited music knowledge. i mainly stick to learning computer things and math things, with occasional language things. in other words, no music, arts, etc.
louie9090

*sigh* not what i mean... look i didn't mean learning music... i meant listening to music for fun. like, in the car or something.
KillerSlime

surprisingly enough, that's what i meant too.
Jazzy713

I just got that CD yesterday. Finally.

I think Pink is awesome! She tells it like it is, and she's not afraid to say what she thinks. In a world where everyone is so obsessed with being politically correct, it's good to have someone who says what's on their mind!
KillerSlime

there are alot of people who say that. if you say it too much the other people do not like you much, but if tyou say it enough people are friendly...
~Sylph~

Two things Killer...

1) If you speak your mind, not everyone will like you, true. But those that do still like you after you have spoken your mind, they are the best ones to be liked by.

2) Knowledge is wonderful; including that which might appear to be useless knowledge. Though I actually apply academic knowledge like geometry and science in my life and work, I would be hard pressed if you asked me to choose between that knowledge and the lyrics to countless songs that fill my head.

I guess what I am saying is an hour wasted staring at a painting, or a shoreline or listening to a song is not really wasted. And, perhaps that a life without those kinds of moments would truly be the waste. Just my opinion, but one I hold quite firmly.
louie9090

rock on, dudet! Laughing anyway, i totally agree with you... although, i don't like staring at art. quite frankly, i think staring at art if boring as heck. but sitting on the beech and staringinto space is fun, and listening to music is what i do a lot before i go to bed, just sorta stare at the ceiling with my head phones on...
KillerSlime

i agree with sylph... it just feels like, at places like school, those who say what they feel, especially in a uberconformist class like my year, is not always the best policy... but yeah, that makes sence.
louie9090

i don't have to worry about that... actually, that was the reason mom didn't want me to go to middle school... my cousin had a bad experience there, so i'm at home. and you wanna know something scary? i help out at my sister's dance class, which is for little people like 6 yrs old, and there are clearly definable 'cliques'. seriously, kindergardners already have there own popular group.
KillerSlime

yes. when i was in kindergarden, there were two cliques. the boys and the girls. they boys picked on the girls. i was the one kid who was counted as neither, despite the fact that i had a gender. really weird, but i have seen smaller kids dividing themselves.
and if there is one school experience i could remove, it would be middle school. i really do not like it much at all... high school is only moderately better.
louie9090

school suxs period... but yea, HS is only good if it's in a book... =P

So, I don't see why everyone thinks Bush is an idiot. I, for one, and very glad that Gore or Kerry didn't get to be president. All I see on the net, Bush this, Bush that, "idiot," what's up with this? I think everyone is following the crowd. I say stand out and be prowd of your country and your president. Dem. or Rep., it doesn't matter, I don't think you should slam anyone. (I have a theory that most Bush likers don't have internet access... Razz j/k) And, no, sorry, I haven't heard of Pink. All I know is it seems disrespectful to just slam people like that.. Now that I'm done, please don't hurt me...
KillerSlime

no hurting speedy. i understand, but not all of us are following the croud. i do not say that he is stupid, either, only that i would rather have someone else. i agree that alot of people are followign the croud, and i agree that it is a constitutional right to criticize him and that it's okay to follow a croud, but that there are some people and places where bush is supported.
and if you look for his popularity, you will find it decreasing; people generally stop liking him after other people don't. humans are like sheep.

That's why we all need The Great Shepherd.
KillerSlime

not nececarily... the existance of such is debatable, and that would mean that he/she would be telling everyone where to go, defeating the purpose.

i am not just following the crowd! i truly think we could have a better president. seriously. but i'm not getting into a whole political discussion 'cause whenever i post my beleifes, everyone disagrees 'cause it's againts 'God'. and says my spelling is bad, but whatever... Neutral
SpEEdySnAIL

Well don't think I was trying to put anyone's beliefs down. (and my spelling can be really bad someimes, too Wink )
goombapatrol054

i like bush.

well, better than kerry, thats for sure.

but even if people dont like a president, its extremely disrespectful to be doing what they are. (you've all seen those "hit bush and win $1000" ads)

as for that one fahrenheit 9/11 movie going on and on about bush being an idiot: very very slanted/biased perspective.
some of the stuff may've been true, but it wasn't completely honest.

i just got this in an email yesterday. amazing what people are thinking of just to insult bush.

y'know, if some people from way-back-when could see us now, they'd be amazed at how disrespectful our country has been to bush.
louie9090

he's a pawn. and in case you haven't noticed, he is the reason we are in this stupid war that is getting thousands of people killed everyday, and some of them are civilinas. it's a stupid war. there weren't any weapons of mass destruction, and there probably isn't a good reason to still be there in such force. but this is the last time i'm posting here, 'cause most of the time it's a one-sided argument.
KillerSlime

sorry... i agree with Louie's beliefs, but that's no reason to say things like that... anyway, it's our right to disagree, and our right to be mean to bush like this. in fact, this is almost exactly what is believed to be in mind when they made it so you could disrespect and oppose the president.
anyway, the sum of it is, people have political beliefs here and saying things like this isn't going to convince them, so what's the point? maybee if we stop posting people will stop arguing...
Jazzy713

In my mind, Bush is smart compared to Kerry and Gore, (no offense to those of you who think they're smart), but I still don't think he's smart, I just think he's smart compared to them. Think about it. Bush has the sense to not get us out of Iraq. I'll risk you calling me stupid, but I think that if we just get all of the troops out of Iraq all at once, we're dead.

My opinion is that everyone is allowed to have their opinion on our country's president, (not just Bush, but every president from Washington to the last president the US ever has), but no matter what, we have to support him. He is the leader of our country, and I don't want to know how weak we look to other countries because we don't support our leader. He may not always do what is best for our country, but he's doing the best he can and we have to support him no matter what he decides to do. If people continue to speak out against Bush, it's slowly going to tear away at our country's unity. We can't let that happen! We can't let our country fall apart! We're allowed to have our opinions, (Freedom of Speech is one of our rights given to us in the Bill of Rights), but we still need to support our president, no matter how stupid we think he is.

Okay... I'm done... Don't hurt me, either... Pensive or Nervous

i know i said i wouldn't post, but i have to say a whee little thing here... ok, paragraph #1: my point exactly. take away about 1/4 to 1/2 of our troops out of Iraq. not all, but some, if not most. and paragraph #2:Bush, have you heard his speeches? he doesn't even know what he's talking about! and we're not going to fall apart, 'cause if he gets to be even more of an idiot then he already is, we can kick him out. do any of you watch CBS sunday morning? did you see what they had on yesterday? about the censoring thing? that's bogus. it's so freaking stupid. i mean, everyone knows about everything they're censoring, so why the hell are they doing it? omg this is so scary look at that! it's totally true... *pauses* eeep, i'm starting to sound like my cousin Surprised
KillerSlime

it has mild exadurations some places, but the number of matches is still scary...
and, as Louie said, people aren't saying immediate total withdrawl. they're saying don't go in the first place or atleast try harder to get out of there. we don't have to support him, that's the whole point; if we supported him, how could we debate him without saying we didn't like him or what he has done? more and more people start disliking him every time it's counted... he's losing popularity, but he's going to be gone reasonably soon too...
Jazzy713

I'm just stating my opinion, so don't worry about me getting mad and blowing you up, (yay, explosives! Just kidding.)

We've only got two more years untill the next election. Maybe the government won't mess this world up too much before then. I don't like Bush, either, but just think: it could be worse. I could be president! (He he he he he... Twisted Evil )

That flash thing was kinda creepy, but the sexism part of it shouldn't last much longer.

*crosses fingers*

In 2008, I can almost guarantee that Hillary and possibly Condi will be running for president. Maybe some others, too. (Hopefully. I'm not too fond of those two.)

I think I'll shut up now.
KillerSlime

noone who wants to be presedent should have the job. it should be people who don't want it because they know what it entitles. those who want it do not quite understand it, i'm given to believe...
