[wow, i missed so much... actually, though, what you said about the gate didn't seem like a bad idea, but whatever...] Kyo grabbed the kid from behind, and holding him at arms reach started backing away. Xae was still chasing the kid, who was making rude faces at her. Kyo wispered to the kid "There are two ways this can go. one of them involves you coming out with all your limbs. which will it be?" it had a pretty good efect. the kid stopped struggling so much, although he spat at kyo, and that calmed Xae and the guy. Kyo thought 'huh. so quoting threats works... interesting...' as the world of words was suddenly dawning on him. Kyo looked to his arm, where the scratches were getting pretty unpleasant by the end. he was really, really glad that that guy with the sword hadn't made it to him (or, worse, through him) and he realized that maybe, just maybe, the crowds that were gathering and the pandemonium may be a rather bad thing for a group of extremely wanted individuals trying to flee the city. also, he could hear some shouts getting closer from city guards...

[ Killer, I wanted to give ya a chance to decide whether your character liked it or not. And a way to do that now would be to have him 'change' his mind, though I know you are saying your character didn't really need to. It was the best way I could come up with, since my character is a bit, erm, demonstrative, to have her throw out her idea and get others opinions. Since, her normal tendancy would be to just say 'follow me'. Wink

]

"Ya I'm afraid teleporting is not... ," Reev began to say as she was interupted by Kaz drawing his rather large sword. Because her mouth was already engaged it continued to make noise as she looked around and noticed the crowd that both Kaz and Kyo had already taken note of and she found hersylph saying, "Uhhhh," while looking at the gaurds filling the street between them and the gates some 100 yards away. Reev searched for words of warning, but at first only "Uhhh," issued from her mouth again as her mind tried to switch gears. Click! The tumblers of her mind locked into place and she shouted to Xae and to Kyo as she drew her bow, "We dont have time to help those two resolve their problems right now, we have our own to worry about!"

Xaenai turned towards Reev, unable from her position to see the soldiers gathering and yelled, "Excuse me for tryin to be helpful!" Kyo cracked his knuckles and then walked over to join Kaz and Reev. The boy took this moment of distraction to try to make a break for it and darted towards Kaz and Reev without thinking about it. Both Xae and Serm quickly pursued him but Xae quickly stopped when she noticed what the others of her party had already had. Serm dove tackled the kid five feet from Reev, Kaz and now Kyo, causing him to drop what he had stolen. It rolled and bounced along the street coming to rest on the sylph's foot.

Xae withdrew her second dagger, filling her one empty hand and continued on her path, though no longer taking any notice of the kid nor Serm as she walked by the two tussling on the ground for ownership of an item which neither of them now held. As Xaenai joined the others, all eyes, but the kids and Serms were upon them, but for the first time she didn't mind the attention. Not one bit. She kissed one of her daggers and then readied herself.

Reev looked down at the trinket, shook her head and laughed, again believing something of Kaz that wasn't true. Who could blame her though when she noticed that the trinket was a teleporter after Kaz had suggested this as an alternative to storming the gate. He had been right about the second part too though. She didnt know how to use it and probably couldnt spare the strength to try right now.

She plucked it up and tossed both it and the fire scroll to Kaz with a wink, which he also misinterpreted all the more when she said, "Maybe next time we can."

Xae would've spat on the boy as she past, but she was more civalized then that. "That kid gives the rest o' us thieves a bad name," she muttered, missing the contradiction.

On another note, THIS IS AWESOME.]

The guards were now pretty much a big horde around the main gate. The crowd of about 70 that encircled them, watching Serm and the boy tussle on the ground ever so immaturely, blocked their way and was totally oblivious to both the group of four and the guards seemingly endlessly gathering at the gate.

Xaenai, Kyo, Reev, and Kaz were all poised and ready for action, side by side, but the guards at the main gate just continued to gather and look in the direction of the crowd, which was still oblivious. Seeing that if the guard charged, they'd first have to run for 5 or 6 seconds, giving the four an opportunity to bolt, and that's not even with the crowd in the way. "I'm guessing Idaur would have a problem with innocent blood on his men's hands," the salamander's thoughts unintentionally escaping from his mouth, while he slipped the amulet into his pocket (not knowing what reason Reev had for giving it to him) and the scroll in a pocket in his back strap. The sylph heard this, being the closest to Kaz and the only one being able to over the crowd's talking and somewhat loud egging on of the two behind them, and understood after a few moments.

"Well you three... How do we want to go about doing this?" Kaz then parted the crowd (startling a few of them) with Ko Kasai.

The whispering and talking died down a little as the attention shifted to the four as the crowd began to grasp the gravity of the situation.

"Goin' in head first sounds good to me," said Xae. They all internalized this, and all knew that this was the only way.

"The crowd! It's perfect! We have to find some way to frighten them badly enough that they scatter in all dirrections. It'll be just the distraction we need," Reevengaofar said and then desperately tried to think of something that could accomplish it. Xaenai didn't hesitate, she ran straight at the crowd with both her daggers held over her head and yelling threats. Kyo caught on quickly and followed suit, running at the civilians and screaming like a madman. When Kaz joined in, brandishing his grand deklaive the crowd really started moving and the three of them began herding the crowd straight for the gaurds, who though puzzled stood their ground.

Reev stood there for a moment watching all this stunned, then removed her cape and took flight towards the crowd, ten feet above the ground, firing her bow as she went over the crowd and towards the guards. Though none of her shots managed to hit any of them, still fifty yards ahead, still panic starting was spreading and infecting them as it had the civilians. Between being shot at and having a herd of people running towards them some of the gaurds actually fled their ranks. It looked like it would work, until from the top of the gates came Idaurs shoutting commands, "Hold your ground! Do not let them pass. Kill them all if you have to!"

Many of the guard still hesitated as some of the crowd that ran towards them were frightened family, friends and neighbors. The paniced mass of townsfolk began to divide left and right, unwilling to flee straight towards the heavily armed guards, some hearing and understanding what Idaurs words meant but most were simply looking for the path of least resistance. However, the paniced civilians still ended up dividing the bulk of the force the foursome were running towards, now only ten yards away.

Suddenly as if he'd apparated from thin air, Vian appeared from behind the foursome, grabbed Xaenai from behind and yelled in excitement, "I got her, get the other one!". At the same time, unaware of this, Kaz took a mighty leap towards the gates tower and Idaur, knowing from his many battles that it all became cakework, once the leader was out of the way.

Though Kyo had noticed Xae was no longer running with him and that Kaz had lept ahead, it was too late to stop his charge. He alone continued to rush headlong towards the remaining gaurds as Reev flew hard to catch up with him, while trying to provide him cover fire. The screaming, yelling and sounds of running broke the spell of Serm and the kid's private conflict and the two just laid there on the ground, still holding onto one another, watching these events in awe.

[ Yeah, I'm lovin' it too! I think the above should be handy in making this part of the tale a concurable mass with everyone taking their own segment of the story to, erm, tackle? Hope I didnt take too many liberties. ]

Kyo, running twoards the soon-to-be-altogether-too-closed gates, thought about it and maybe, since here they were certaintly outnumbered, that the sneaky way out would have worked better... if there was one...
kicking a few bystanders on his way, to create pandimonium and sort of relieve stress, he nearly reaches the gate when he looks back to check on/tease Xaenai. when he doesn't see her, or any path she may be making, he gets a little worried [and now i must sleep...]

Xae struggled violently against Vian's grip, cursing loudly. He was too busy gloating to anyone who would listen to notice Xae unsheeth the dagger on her back. Lunging backyards, She knocked him off balance and leapt free of him. "Lousy thief," she muttered, kicking Vian before dashing off.

hearing panicked screams behind him, presumably because of overly-violent knife girls(of the singular variety), kyo turned back to the greater problem of the guards, who were still reluctant but shouting half-hearted threats and securing the gates. 'hmm.... climbing the walls, while nifty, wouldn't work because they'd spot me and try to shoot me.... how will we get there... aha! running up to reevengaofar, he asked "can't you get them to open the gates? we need to get out of here, we can lose them then escape!

"I'll try. Keep the gaurds on this side of the gate busy," Reev said leaving Kyo behind and taking flight towards the gate station opposite the gaurd tower where Kaz had lept. (more to come later)

[Sylph, in my opinion you took the perfect amount of liberties. Without you I wouldn't even know there was a guard tower to jump to, let alone Idaur in it, hahaha. Wink

Kaz soared up to the tower, putting his sword onto his back and landed with Idaur already waiting. Idaur swung his 6 foot masamune sword in a long horizontal sweep, Kaz landing on the ledge just in time to hop over Idaur. The sweep sliced the bamboo holding the straw roof in half, sending it toppling over the edge into the chaos below, of which Kaz was still unaware. "How nice of you to drop by, salamander," he stated clearly not phased. Kaz landed behind him and Idaur backhand-slashed with the long dagger in his left hand. Kaz ducked in time and leg swiped, the sword on his back's tip clinking on the wall, only to have Idaur jump that and swing with his mighty masamune again, this time vertically. Kaz side-stepped out of the way and punched him square in the gut as his sword was lodged into the cracks in the stone of the tower.

Manuvering around in this gaurd tower wasn't very easy for either of them. The 3 foot ledge around the perimeter kept them in it, but both of their large swords were cumbersome in the small area. Both were at least the diameter of it, and having them out or strapped to your back was difficult. Plus the handle of the trap door sticking out from the floor kept them on their feet.

While tussling at arm's length, Kaz still not armed (because of not finding an opportune moment to unsheath it), he finally internalized the presence of the trap door, and stomped on it rather hard, smashing it and sending wood splinters everywhere. Idaur stopped to cover his face, and when he opened his eyes again he realized the absence his opponent. Just at that moment, Ko Kasai - along with a large amount of fire - burst through the floor. The cobblestones and rocks flew every which way, several hitting Idaur in the chest and head while he fell downwards into the tower's stairwell.
