I played a session yesterday, so I'll give a report:
My human fighter Jeac (level 14), was set on a quest to find the King's jewel, which was conveniently hidden in a red dragon's cave. Knowing that even Frostbite (cold longsword) couldn't stand up to a dragon, I hired a band of mercenaries to travel with me. They were dwarves, and they called themselves the Blood Axes. We entered the cave opening and were attacked by 4 Grimlocks, which we dispatched of easily. Travelling into the cave, the Dwarves were able to guide the way with darkvision and led me to a cavern. I lit a torch just to be safe and we inspected the area, finding a few skeletons and a dead Grimlock. On guard, we entered another cavern, where we were ambushed by more Grimlocks. After killing two of them, I was just a few XP points away from level 15. We entered another cavern and spotted it: The red dragon. We tried to sneak behind it but were caught. It sent Grimlock wave after Grimlock wave at us, but we beat them all. It was impressed with our courage and allowed us to take the jewel if we promised to ne'er disturb him while sleeping again. I was awarded just enough XP to get to level 15 and a lot of gold from the King.
I thought it was a great session. |

actually, most of us started at lv1-4 (depending on when we joined the team; otherwise we'd be unevenly balanced), but we've been doing it a while (dont ask how long)
the mindflayer bit was just a halloween special that the dm organized for us.
we each got to pick an evil character at level 10/so, and had to find a way to make them good (i made my illithid [a mindflayer, for all you n00bs out there ] a rebel who didnt believe that it was kind to do what they do (devour brains).
anyway, it was interesting (to say the least) _________________ type this in word and hit enter: =rand(100,100)

"it is rude to eat! how does our food feel when we sustain ourselves off it?" answer; turn brain-vegitarian. eat sentient plants?

your characters are cool.
all that happened recently in my group is one of our members kept on acting stupid(if he was in your situation, he would have walked up to the dragon and poked it, waiting to be fried.) while i try to keep everybody alive(i'm a druid) while my animal companion(wolf) fights alongside two other people. last plot thing, someone important died. the DM made some mistakes, and had to cover too quickly to take the easy way out... he dictated plot.
being low-level stinks sometimes.
and it sounds like you have been having fun! _________________ "All matter is attracted to all other matter. Therefore, it is in the basic nature of my mass to tackle your mass." |

the most interesting things can happen in d&d.
once i took 2 bagfuls of ashes from a fire.
all my friends thought that i was being stupid, but i knew better.
see, i had a really high bluff check, and hoped i could sell it as something else
as soon as we got to the nearest town, i sold one bag as "incense" for 8 gold pieces then, just as i was about to sell the other, the dungeon master (just to spite me) made a pickpocket/theif run off with my bag.. _________________ type this in word and hit enter: =rand(100,100)

Pwnage. xD

It is boring when you are low level. Half of my low levels were working at a bar. I eventually gained a reputation and was given a medal for defending the bar when it was attacked by thugs. So, I technically was given a jump start, but I'm sure your DM will come around.
Because you can't expect to pwn a Mindflayer at level 2 with unmagical weapons. =P |

well, he's offered to say "you go to the mountains and train. ten years later, five levels higher..."
but i do not think so, that would be not fun i think. _________________ "All matter is attracted to all other matter. Therefore, it is in the basic nature of my mass to tackle your mass." |

Yeah, that sounds kind of crazy.
I usually start MY campaigns at around level 5.
My most memorable ones were a group of 5 at level 5.
Dean was a human fighter, Sam was a half-elf cleric, Johnathan was a thri-kreen psi-blade, Mary was an elven druid, and Ian was a kobold fighter.
Ian died in their first fight, bombarded by six bugbears. Dean and Mary escaped the fight while Sam and Jonathan finished off the beasts. Dean and Mary attempted to destroy the bugbear village with the help of local bandits, but ended up getting killed. Sam and Johnathan meanwhile, were negotiating with a hill giant to let them go. They fled to a city, where the hill giant brought along a group of giants, destroying the city. Sam died in the collapse and Johnathan stole a horse to flee. He lived to become a memorable psionics master, defending an Oriental village from vampires and killing a were-tiger that was aggravating citizens in another village.
Johnathan is still alive today at level 18. _________________ "Hello, Dr. Gordon. I want to play a game..."

"What? No. This is a different kind of -"
"I WANNA PLAY HIDE AND SEEK!"
"You know what, they didn't tell me about this in the job offer. I QUIT." |

that's pretty cool. he never tried to get his friends ressurected?
in my most recent session, the afformentioned ranger attempted to convince the party to go on an elven genocide. we thankfully succeded the very easy will saves. then we killed a small dragon and got some valuables. then there was no time left, really much at all... we continued on to the destination point.
